Mark Evans, Dennis Miller tie with two other teams in today’s Pro-Pro at Firestone CC.

May 8th, 2017 – Firestone Country Club (Akron, Ohio)

Mark Evans (The Mayfield Sandridge Club) and Dennis Miller started hot with birdies on the first three holes they played today and used that momentum to fire a 3-under 67 today on the South Course at Firestone Country Club, host of the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.

Evans and Miller also tied the teams of Justin Long (Windmill Lakes)/Steve Parker (Portage) and a host professional team from Firestone Country Club of Ronald DeJacimo and Nathan Tarter. However, Evans and Miller will take their performance from today into the NOPGA Season Long Match Play as the #1 Seed as neither of the teams they tied with chose to play in this event.

Nathan Tarter was able to post a 64 in the first group off last week at Congress Lake Club prior to storms cancelling the event. He used the momentum from last week’s performance along with his partner’s play to total the most birdies in the field (6) on a day where the South Course played extremely long.

A lot of familiar names were at the top of the leaderboard, qualifying in prime position for this year’s Season Long Match Play event. The Stone brothers from Northwest Ohio dialed in another impressive performance. They combined to shoot a better-ball 68 to earn their fourth consecutive top-4 finish in team events this spring.

In addition to the Stone brothers, we had the teams of Randy Dietz (Windmill Golf Center)/Cory Kumpf ( Brookside) and the GolfTec team of Nick Paez and Chris Walsh shoot 2-under 68’s. The only other team to break even-par today was the team of Trent Maxwell (Windmill Golf Center) and Casey Schrader (Pepper Pike).

Our section professionals return to the golf course for another team event next Monday, May 15th at The Mayfield Sand Ridge Club (Mayfield Campus) for the Pro-Assistants event.
