Hansen Earns Berth into 100th PGA Championship

Jaysen Hansen (Photo courtesy of PGA of America) earned a berth into the 100th PGA Championship yesterday with his T6 finish in the PGA Professional Championship. Hansen’s final score was 68 76 73 71 (288). The low 20 finishers earned a spot in the PGA Championship, Aug. 9-12, at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis.

Jim Troy finished the PGA Professional Championship in T30 with a score of 80 69 74 70 (293).

Jaysen Hansen (Photo courtesy of PGA of America) and Jim Troy made the second cut after the third round of the PGA Professional Championship at Bayonet Black Horse in Seaside, California. Hansen finished the round at T13 with a score of 68 76 73 (217). Troy finsished the round at T57 with a score of 80 69 74 (223). Both are trying to finish in the top 20 to earn a berth into the PGA Championship today during the finalround.

Hansen shot a second round score of (+4) 76 which combined with his first round score of (-4) 68 left him at even par going into today’s third round. Troy played much better during the second round where he shot a score of (-3) 69 which combined with his first round score of (+8) 80 left him at five over going into today’s round. There will be another cut after the third round. The top 70 plus ties will advance.

Jaysen Hansen, Head PGA Golf Professional at Beechmont Country Club (Photo courtesy of PGA of America), had a great start to the PGA Professional Championship yesterday. He shot an impressive 4 under 68 with back to back eagles (a career first) to finish in a tie for the lead after the first round with Brian Carroll from the Illinois PGA Section. Hansen tees off at 12:55 pm today.

A field of 312 competitors from the 41 sections of the PGA of America, including 8 Northern Ohio PGA Members, are competing in the 51st PGA Professional Championship presented by Club Car and OMEGA, June 17-20 at Bayonet Black Horse in Seaside, California. Established in 1968, the PGA Professional Championship is the largest all-professional national championship. It is the showcase event for PGA Professionals, featuring some of the finest players in the Association.

Jon Jones, Youngstown Country Club; David Morgan, Eagle Creek Golf Club; Rob Moss, Pepper Pike Club; Steve Mulcahy, Shawnee Country Club; Casey Schrader, Pepper Pike Club, and Jim Troy, Mount Vernon Country Club will be representing the Northern Ohio PGA.

The 2018 PGA Professional Championship presented by Club Car and OMEGA, features a $550,000 purse. The 2018 Champion will have his name inscribed on the base of the Walter Hagen Cup. The Walter Hagen Cup is named after the legendary golfer, five-time PGA Champion and one of the 35 Charter members of The PGA of America. Hagen elevated the role of the PGA Professional throughout his career.
