Chase Wilson Wins 97th Davey Tree Ohio Open

Wilson uses rounds of 65-72-65 to claim two-stroke victory
The Weymouth Club (Medina, OH) – July 19th, 2017

Chase Wilson opened his 2017 Ohio Open on a torrid pace. He played his first 15 holes on Monday at Fox Meadow Country Club in 8-under par, 65, including an ‘ace’ on Hole #13. This fast start paired with a ‘grind it out’ day on Tuesday put him in the penultimate group and in position to make his run today.

After a bogey on Hole #1 to start his final round, Wilson put three birdies and an eagle on his scorecard to go out in 4-under, 32. Wilson coming in built up his potential energy and made three birdies on his final three holes to post his second 65 of the week and the clubhouse lead at 14-under, 202. After his nearest competition did not equal his score, Wilson was named the 97th Davey Tree Ohio Open Champion.
After the round, Wilson was filled with emotion and when first asked for a comment he said, “I’m speechless.” He later went on to say “This (Ohio Open) is the tournament that I have wanted for a long time.” Wilson will make the journey to Perrysburg, OH for the Toledo Open hosted at Belmont Country Club to try and go back to back.

The Amateur competition much like the Overall competition had a lot of excitement and intrigue as six golfers finished within two strokes of the lead. The Amateur Champion, Brayden Baldridge, used a 2-under, 70 in the final round to claim a one-stroke victory over Christopher Williard, Josh Gilkison, and Kyle Richardson.
