Spitale Named Ohio Cup Captain
The Northern Ohio PGA has selected Jay Spitale, PGA, Congress Lake Club, to captain the section’s 2014 and 2015 Ohio Cup teams. The Ohio Cup pits the top NOPGA section professionals against their Southern Ohio PGA section counterparts in a two-day match play event.
Prior to being named captain, Spitale served as Assistant Ohio Cup Captain for two years (2012 and 2013), and was a nine-time Ohio Cup team member. His other career accolades include being elected to the Section Hall of Fame in 2012, earning the Section Junior Golf Leader of the Year award in 2003, and winning the 1990 Northern Ohio PGA Denny Shute Match Play event.
Spitale will lead a team made up of the NOPGA section’s top nine members, top four senior members and one captain’s choice. He will be assisted by Joe Flogge, PGA, Barberton Brookside Country Club; Charlie Wood, PGA, Mayfield Country Club; and Bob Barto, PGA, West Pines Golf Range.
“The Ohio Cup is a fun, Ryder Cup-style competition between neighboring PGA sections,” said Dominic Antenucci, Executive Director of the NOPGA. “Jay Spitale’s skill and experience make him the perfect person to lead our team and secure yet another win for the NOPGA.”
The NOGPA has won the Ohio Cup each of the past four years.
The 2014 Ohio Cup Matches will take place September 23-24, at Lakewood Country Club.
